Composite Tooth Fillings in Pampa, TX

Learning you have a cavity can be disappointing, but it doesn’t mean you’ll be stuck with a metal filling that announces your dental work every time you smile. At Pampa Dental Arts, Dr. Chris Mohr uses modern tooth-colored composite fillings that blend seamlessly with your smile and restore the tooth’s strength and function.

Before-and-after image showing a metal filling replaced with a natural-looking tooth-colored crown in Pampa, TX.Dr. Mohr is committed to affordable, conservative dentistry that preserves as much natural tooth structure as possible. Composite fillings fit this philosophy because we need to remove only the decayed portion of the tooth.

What Are Composite Fillings?

Composite fillings are made of a tooth-colored resin mixture containing plastic and fine glass particles. This modern material offers several advantages over traditional silver amalgam fillings:

  • Natural appearance —The color can be precisely matched to existing teeth.
  • Direct bonding — The material bonds directly to the tooth, adding strength.
  • Preservation — The process requires less removal of healthy tooth structure.
  • Mercury-free — The material contains no mercury.
  • Less sensitivity — The filling better protects against temperature changes.

Benefit of Treating Cavities Right Away

If you have a toothache or notice a dark spot on a tooth, we know it can be tempting to put off calling the dentist for help. At Pampa Dental Arts, we understand your feelings, but there are several benefits to calling us at the first sign of a problem:
Prompt Pain Relief
As decay spreads, it reaches the inner portions of the tooth where the nerves are located. At this stage, you can experience severe tooth pain that disrupts your life. Getting a tooth filling at the first sign of a cavity can prevent this discomfort.
Protect Your Oral Health
Without treatment, cavities continue to grow, extending further into the tooth. This can ultimately lead to infections spreading to other parts of your mouth or body. Early treatment safeguards not just your tooth but your overall health.
Prevent More Costly Problems
A simple filling is much more affordable than the root canal therapy, crown, or extraction you might need if the decay progresses. Treating cavities early protects the tooth from further damage and saves money on more complex treatments.

What to Expect When Getting a Tooth Filling

When placing a dental filling, Dr. Mohr performs the following steps:

  1. Takes x-rays to identify the cavity.
  2. Numbs the area to make sure you feel no pain during treatment
  3. Removes the decayed portion of the tooth.
  4. Cleans and prepares the tooth with a liquid that bonds the material to the tooth.
  5. Applies the tooth-colored material in layers, hardening each with a special curing light
  6. Shapes and polishes the filling to match your bite and ensure a natural appearance

The process is comfortable and efficient, and you can eat normally shortly after your appointment.

Composite Bonding for Beautiful Smiles

Dr. Mohr uses the same composite material for dental bonding, a procedure used to repair minor cosmetic concerns like chipped teeth, gaps, stains, and discoloration, and to improve oddly shaped teeth. The process is a conservative, affordable alternative to veneers or crowns. Similar to fillings, we don’t need to remove natural tooth structure to create a noticeable smile improvement.
